Our Member of the month for June is Christina Dunn. When told that she was nominated for Member of the Month, she had no reply, literally. After explaining to her why she was chosen, she accepted the nomination and agreed to the interview. Humble, optimistic, and determined are just a few words that define just who Christina is, apart from being a valued member of SNW Fitness.
Christina is a Para-Professional at Reeths Puffer and has been since 2006. Before that, she stayed at home with her 5 boys and is happily married. Prior to joining SNW Fitness, she knew that being active was important so she made sure to walk on her treadmill for 45 minutes frequently to stay moving.
In 2017 they suffered a house fire. One of the items lost was her treadmill. She knew it had to be replaced, or at least needed to find something that would keep her active. Christina has watched her mother suffer with immobility from severe arthritis and has seen how limiting and isolating it can be as a result. Because of this, she strives to stay active, be consistent, and if she loses a little weight, she said that is just a bonus.
At the same time that she was searching for a new piece of exercise equipment, she had also been talking with her friend Martha Webb. Martha had mentioned that she was a member of SNW Fitness and suggested that Christina check it out. She decided to give SNW Fitness a try.
Shortly after giving us a try, Christina quickly decided to become part of our community. She stated that she enjoys not only the diversity of classes offered but also the community and the unspoken accountability factor. She said that when you’re at home working out, there is not much accountability. Christina also said that it’s the community and camaraderie that help her to be accountable. She stated that she truly feels like a part of SNW fitness, as opposed to being isolated on the treadmill at home.
Christina has come so far since her start here at SNW fitness. She says she is most proud of the fact that she has noticed that she can push harder than she could in the beginning. She is also proud that she has stuck with it and been so consistent.
Christina is excited about her future. She is looking forward to being active with her family in the years to come. Christina has had many things change in her life since her time here at SNW fitness. Her confidence has increased, she has made new friends, and feels much stronger and healthier. She said had she not come to SNW fitness she would not have made the progress, both physically and emotionally, that she has. If she could give some advice it would be, “you are the one that needs to care enough about yourself to get started.” She ended with saying that so often we don’t make ourselves a priority but we have to in order to have good quality of life.
